Stomp and Clap

19Feb07

Last night at Downtown Records, there was a hip-hop show. I was there with all the CS “gangsters” in support of my man MC Plus+, a Purdue CS grad student who is keeping it real for all the CS majors in the struggle. Not to show Plus+ any disrespect, but the best act there was Danté LaSalle and DJ Deckmaster D. He’s a rapper hailing from Detroit, somehow finding his way to perform in Lafayette. This guy and his DJ have major skill though, spittin’ some badass rhymes and scratchin’ with the best of them. I spoke with him afterward and the guy is just as down as his music. This got me real pumped up about music and performing and all the regular stuff you feel after a really great show. But then I realized that next Friday I’m competing in a poetry slam at Notre Dame so that opportunity is gonna come sooner than I thought it would (by the way, if any of y’all wanna come to this, lemme know). I’m pretty nervous and don’t feel like I have enough material for it. Should be a good time nonetheless.

Today I’ve been lazying around at home: taking a long nap after my last day at TouchSupport, editing the theme on this blog thing, thinking about this music blog the Goek and I are starting up. I started to finally read more of The Hours while on the john then hopped in the shower. On the porcelain throne I remembered I have a stack of math homework due tomorrow. I was rather comfortable with my sloth until that came up. And it’s not that the math homework is hard, either. I just have a natural aversion to doing math homework. It started sometime in… 11th grade? Mr. Nance didn’t grade math homework, so I never did anything he assigned (to my detriment, unfortunately). College professors have made me do homework, and I’ve always found myself staring it in the face on the night before it’s due. It was especially bad last semester when I was taking differential equations since those problem sets were so long and tedious. Ugh. This is why computers were created.

Tomorrow I’m going to start looking for a studio or one bedroom in Lafayette. I haven’t told my roommate yet (and he doesn’t read my blog so I don’t think he’ll get suddenly indignant for seemingly no reason). Looking for a place in downtown, preferably a little nook or studio above some rundown Lafayette shop that saw its heyday years ago. If I’m lucky, it’ll be in severe risk of catching fire (renter’s insurance would probably be a good idea this time).

I think I had more to say when I started this post. Or four hours ago when I toyed around with the theme (only changing the background color and font, mind you). Sorry for being so shallow this time, guys.

In lieu of actual literary mastery, I’ll leave you with a moment of zen:
